The first annual convention for these serving to to welcome Hong Kongers, who’ve moved to the UK beneath the new British National (Overseas) visa scheme, came about in London this week.
Hosted by the Welcoming Committee for Hong Kongers, it introduced collectively recently-arrived Hong Kongers with these working in charities, native authorities, religion organisations and nationwide authorities too, to assist Hong Kongers settle and combine in the UK,
Almost 18 months after the scheme was launched – permitting these with BN(O) standing and their eligible relations to use to reside, research and work in the UK – over 125,000 Hong Kongers have secured a British National (Overseas) visa.
Daniel Korski, Chair of the Welcoming Committee for Hong Kongers, opened the convention, celebrating “a day of discussion and sharing of experiences that brings together the welcomed and the welcomers.”
Lord Stephen Greenhalgh, then minister in the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities with duty for the Hong Kong Welcome Programme, underlined the authorities’s ongoing dedication to serving to Hong Kongers settle in the UK. Announcing an additional £3.6m funding to assist Hong Kong welcoming, along with £3m for voluntary organisations to proceed their work serving to Hong Kongers to settle and combine in the UK, he mentioned:
